Waypoint Notter, the Netherlands, (www.gps.nl) is a Garmin specialised reseller, focussed on use of GPS on the motorbike.
When the Garmin Streetpilot 2610 came out we found it to be a perfect system for in-car use, but not optimised for use on the motorbike. The touchscreen makes operating the Streetpilot difficult, when wearing gloves. Although one shouldn't operate the Garmin while riding, there are situations when the touchscreen is not ideal; e.g. operating the Streetpilot while waiting for the traffic-light (as soon as you take a glove off, the light will of course immediately turn green); but mostly because, keeping your eyes on the road, you want to be able to zoom in and out manually, thus anticipating the curves ahead using the map. It takes too many touchscreen operations to zoom and you'll loose the information-tabs.
As an extra service to our customers, soon after release of the Streetpilot 2610, we decided to develop two extra buttons for this zoom function. While we were developing this, BMW announced the BMW Navigator II, developed in exclusive co-operation with Garmin. The BMW Navigator II has four buttons, two of which are basically obsolete (they are of no use without using the touchscreen as well).
However, the fact that BMW launched a solution with four buttons encouraged us to make an even better solution. As a result we decided to have five buttons; the fifth being a rocker keypad, enabling operation of all functions without using the touchscreen (yes! we listened to the current Streetpilot III users!).
The result was the Perfect Cradle 'RED', combined with the Streetpilot: the Perfect Pilot!
We even went one step further: adding cordless sound to the Perfect Cradle using Bluetooth Technology: The Perfect Cradle BLUE. (We even have plans for a 'PURPLE' in the future, featuring an integrated cordless intercom; we expect this to be available next year.)
Now, Garmin lauched the Streetpilot2720, as successor for the 2610. And of course: we made our ‘cradle’ work on the 2720 too. Since Garmin uses ‘New Technonlogy’ (NT) for the 2720 we call the new combination the Perfect Pilot NT!
